Doctor said to discontinue Nexium in 90 days?

He found gastritis and lots of gastric polyps on endoscopy (turned out to be negative for H. Pylori bacteria). Could this be from me using Nexium for six years? (This is a very good doctor, and he would not tell me to discontinue Nexium without a very good reason.)
